Our last sea day of this four night cruise.
Let’s start off by talking about the new Concierge
Lounge. The Disney Wonder has always had
a team of concierge staff, but no lounge.
Previously, most events were held in what is now the Cadillac
Lounge. However, through the
re-imagining space has been dedicated for the concierge staterooms. I believe there are 22 concierge staterooms
on the Disney Wonder.
On the second floor of the Cover Cafe on Deck 10, there was an enclosed area
built which was extremely convenient when sailing on the Alaska cruises
especially on the day visiting Tracy Arm.
You could stay warm while being inside, but had a beautiful viewing
area. That area for guests, have been
considerably reduced and is now only about 25% of the area previously (I am
guessing on the 25%, since I have divided up the area into four sections).
You can enter the Concierge Lounge from midship elevators on deck 10. When entering the lounge you are greeted by one of the Concierge staff and they will confirm your concierge status by verifying your Key to the World Card and asking your name and stateroom number.
Now when you are in Cove Café you can access the open guest
area by still using the staircase from deck 9 to deck, or you can enter the
open viewing area by going through the door on deck 10 (port side). However there has now been a wall built to
close off the open lounge and now the other approximate 75% has been redesigned
for exclusive use by concierge guests.
You are then assisted by your concierge staff member with
any port adventures, spa appointments, Oceaneer Club/Lab, etc. that you need
booked. Additionally they will take care
of any dining needs you may have.
In the Concierge Lounge there is complimentary food and
drink, including bottled water (changes depending on the time of day). There is a children’s area with a television
screen so the children can watch movies.
On the starboard side of the ship is an updated sitting area.
Additionally, on the starboard side there is a staircase
which leads up to what is now a private sundeck on Deck 11. There is open area for sunbathing as well as
covered areas if you want to be out on the deck and say read a book. The views from this area of the ship are spectacular
as they are the highest spot on the ship where a guest, specifically a
concierge guest, can go.
The only access to these two areas is by having a concierge
stateroom on the ship. This is a really
nice perk for the concierge guests of this ship. I can definitely see the benefits of having a
concierge stateroom for the Alaska sailings.
Additionally, I noticed on the last cruise for pirate night, that there
were many concierge guests up on deck 11 watching the fireworks. It is definitely a prime viewing spot for the
fireworks, although you miss the stage show at the Goofy Pool.
Okay, so moving on from the Concierge Lounge.
Today as a Platinum or Gold Castaway Club member you
received an exclusive invitation to the dress rehearsal of Frozen: A Musical Spectacular. The media on board were also invited to this
dress rehearsal. The showing was at 11
a.m. and I would say there was above 400 in the audience. I don’t want to spoil anything about the
show, but all I will say is the puppetry is fantastic and that even if you are
not a fan of the movie Frozen, you should truly enjoy the experience of seeing
Frozen. The team that brought this
production to the theater has outdone anything I have ever seen Disney do
before. The show was fantastic.
After the show we stopped by to see Santa Claus in the atrium. They are still working on the gingerbread
house.
They had hot chocolate and soft
gingerbread cookies. They were yummy.
Then we had some lunch at my new favorite lunch spot, Daisy’s
De Lites for a soup bowl. We had a nice
afternoon playing cards up on deck 9.
Final Bingo was at 4 in the afternoon. While we waited for Bingo, was able to snatch
a few pictures of the first bride on the newly re-imagined Disney Wonder. We met the couple in the check in line at the
Port of Galveston and they were really nice.
Shortly thereafter it was time for the official Premiere of
Frozen: A Musical Spectacular. The show was more enjoyable the second time than
the first, only because I picked up on additional things happening. It’s like seeing a movie a lot of times. You catch new things when you see the movie.
At 7:30 we went to the family show of Christina Bianco. She is an excellent singer and impressionist.
At 8:15 we were off to dinner in Animator’s Palate. It is the Drawn to Magic Animation show which
has been added during dry dock.
After dinner it is back to Azure so we can see MaryEllen
Hooper in her final comedy show. She was
amazing. It is followed by 80’s Playback
and both MaryEllen and Christina join in on the fun.
We get some pictures with our club hostess Jo!
Here is a copy of the Daily Navigator.
We gain an hour back tonight before we head into the Port of
Galveston. We are out after midnight and
then Michael has to pack all his stuff.
Since I’m on a back to back, I have very little work to do, so work on
the blog and call it a night!
Goodnight from the Disney Wonder!
You will be sailing on the week long cruise on the 18th too? We will be on there if so! Thank you for the blog, I appreciate the sneak peak of what to expect on the reimagined Wonder!
